Emergency Medicine

Our veterinarians are available for 24/7 emergency services for all established clients in good financial standing. A client is established if we have seen their horse(s) for any routine care in the last calendar year.

We understand that some horse owners may not be established clients but require emergency services. Please call if you have an emergency and we will get back to you right away. Non-established clients may incur additional emergency charges.

****Please call the clinic if you have any concern with your horse. Our veterinarians can advise if an emergency call may be indicated. If it is an emergency to you, we consider it an emergency. If you are not sure if it is an emergency, then please let us know the issue and we can help advise if the horse may need to be seen right away****

We HIGHLY recommend having an emergency plan in place BEFORE the need arises. This means having access to a working truck and trailer to be able to haul the horse quickly, having the horse trained to load quickly and safely, and deciding if colic surgery is an option for this horse (even if this seems like a mild colic to you) in advance.

Please do not administer ANY medications before speaking to the on-call veterinarian. Many common medications will alter a horse’s vital signs and pain level. Once we have spoken with you, we can advise on giving medications or waiting until we arrive.

We can see emergencies on your farm or in the clinic with certain exceptions. We will request you to haul the horse into the clinic if you are outside of our call radius.

Common emergencies include:

Colic

Choke

Horse not acting right (sick, lethargic, not eating)

Sudden lameness including inability to bear weight or walk on a leg (it is recommended for these horses to be seen on the farm!)

Sudden swelling of a leg

Wounds/lacerations/cuts

Eye abnormalities: swollen/abnormal/painful

Down horse unable to rise

Testimonials

Read What Our Clients Say

  • "I've been using Dr. Andersen as my equine vet for almost 3 years. She is smart and professional, and always has my horses' (and my) best interest in mind. She thoroughly evaluates each animal and takes the time to explain treatment options. She is also an outstanding chiropractor; my good barrel horse Danny loves her! An added bonus to the practice is Dr. Calvacanti. She is hard working, well educated and eager to learn. I trust my horses' health to Rocky Mountain Equine Clinic."

  • "I have my horse in retirement and went away to London for a week. On the second day of my trip I got the dreaded phone call that my mare was colicing. With a team effort London was trailered to Rocky Mt equine clinic. The staff was fantastic about keeping me up to date and keeping me sane. They were upfront about the situation and very supportive with my decision. They also were more then happy to allow my mares companion donkey to spend the night. THANK YOU ALL!"

The work she’s done and her ability to explain it and do what’s best for the animal has me in awe. I am So glad she was recommended to me. I will always call her or recommend her and this clinic to anyone. Beautiful facility. Wonderful people. The best care my horse could have ever gotten."
